Crochet Rags with 3 FREE Pattern Options! | Yarn|Hook|Needles

Make your own cotton crochet rags for Christmas stocking stuffers or to use in your own home!

I started making my own rags a few years ago. I love them a lot more than regular rags although there are occasions I’ll pick up those giant packs from Walmart. It’s usually when I’m not interested in keeping them clean or we are doing something for homeschool etc.

I designed these three rag patterns with heavy duty kitchen clean up in mind! With lots of kiddos it’s important to have something super absorbent on hand! Sometimes I will even use these rags as a potholder. Their thickness allows for me to use them to wipe up the table or grab the scalding handle of my cast iron skillet.

I also only use 100% cotton yarn. It makes these easier to wash and take care of as well as making them durable for kitchen and bathroom use!

Here’s What I Used for Each Design:

  • 100% cotton yarn
  • I Hook
  • tapestry needle
  • scissors

The Pattern for DESIGN 1

R1 – DC in 3rd CH from the hook; continue with DC all the way across; CH 2; Turn

R2 – *DC in front post of 1st DC ST; DC in front post of 2nd DC ST; DC in back post of 3rd DC ST; DC in back post of 4th DC ST (* repeat until the end) CH 2; Turn

R4-19 – These rows are a repeat of R2 and R3. You are putting the DC post stitches opposite of one another going two at a time. The pattern winds up looking like a mini version of the basket weave stitch.

R20 – SL ST all the way across; tie off; weave in ends.

This rag pattern is the thickest of the three and very textured. It’s good for cleaning dirtier surfaces, kitchen counters, bathrooms etc.

If you have any questions about one of the patterns please comment down below! One thing I love about these rags is by using the cotton yarn you can make pretty much any color you want. There are also some fun marbled skeins I saw at Michael’s and from one ball you can make 2 rags. The balls of yarn are $1.99 and if you have coupons they’re even less!

For Christmas this are the PERFECT stocking stuffer for people who love to cook!

My rags I have right now have taken a pretty good beating and they are STILL in great condition! I’m planning a pretty big surprise next year for you all and these little beauties will be included in that surprise!

I’ll be announcing what that surprise is when we get closer to the New Year. Which oddly enough is less than 6 weeks away!
